What's New with Us?

In the past few months:

  • Justin passed his B groundwater license test.  YEA!!!
  • I started taking a class in Parish Lay Ministry that has been extremely enlightening and informative - and a great deal of work on the reading that I am nowhere near caught up on.
  • Our oldest son announced at our family reunion in August that he is getting married in March.  I must finish the girls flower-girl dresses by Christmas if I am going to have any hope of finishing them.
  • Our younger son started back to public school as a senior.  (Boo Hoo!)  He got to play his first game last Friday.  We were 45'ed early in the third quarter.  (6-man football rules.)
  • Our girls, even the 21 month-old, began dance last month.  They are both enjoying it.
  • The 21-month-old gets into EVERYTHING, making it very hard to take time to write.  As a matter of fact, I think she is getting into something right this minute.  <Sigh!>  I can't keep up with the messes she can make faster than I can clean them up.
  • We have been reading a great deal.  Our older daughter has just AMAZED us as to how well she can read at not even 5 years old.  (She turns 5 next week.)
  • We adopted a dog from the neighbors next door.  She had always been a great dog with the girls and knew who she can play rough with and when to sit still.  We also adopted a calico cat that adopted us back.  We found out shortly thereafter that she was pregnant.  She had 6 kittens.  The cute little black runt died the day that I began reading, "Charlotte's Web" to the girls. Our older daughter cried for days.  I haven't had the nerve to finish the story where Charlotte dies.  I'm not sure if I will...
  • I got to go to a Women's Conference in Abilene and had a great time.  Justin had a nice time with the girls and his siblings that weekend.
  • We have been trying to get ready for Living History Day with our homeschool group.  I have to finish making the Laura Ingalls Wilder-style prairie dress four our older daughter as we have been reading that series together.
  • The baby likes to color.  She is currently Smurf blue on many parts of her body for coloring with the washable blue markers.
  • I have been elected as a board member for our Northern-Texas, Northern-Louisiana Synodical Women's Organization because I don't have enough going on already.  Wink
  • We bought a new pop-up camper.  We are still trying to get all the pieces parts for the car and camper to hook up and trying to find time to go camping, but we hope that we will get to by New Year's, anyway.  Justin has to work both Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and weekends following.  I am going to a meeting Thanksgiving weekend.
  • We bought a swingset for the girls (to help give them something to do outside that is fun, where I can watch them while I work around the house, but haven't managed to get it home yet due to crazy schedules.
  • For those interested in our health progress...  I got down to 195 lbs, but gained back up to about 203 lbs for a few weeks.  I'm down to 198 lbs again and still losing.  I took my blood pressure and heart rate at the grocery store this evening:  102/62, 72bpm.
  • Justin can't seem to break below 200 lbs and stay there.  His blood pressure is much better on the new medicine.  Tonight, his BP and HR were:  123/86, 89bpm.
  • My computer has been less-flakey, but still slow.
  • I have a fairly big project to complete, in addition to my homework for my PLM class, board member position, homeschooling, wife, mom, etc.

For anyone who wants to check in on us, please say, "Hi!" if you have time. I know everyone else is just as busy as I am and it is an honor that anyone takes that time to stop by.  Please understand that it is not for lack of desire that I have been unable to keep up with our website, but lack of time and patience since everytime I attempt to update this, the girls get into something that takes away my attention.  I will update as I can.   I do try to stop by websites to say, "Hi!" but with my slow computer, if there is music on the site, chances are I won't be able to because by the time the page downloads, someone here is into something new.  I will do my best, though.

Hugs,
Tammy

July 28 Update

Justin has lost over 20 lbs as of today and has less than 40 lbs to go for a 9.1% weight loss to date.  I am so happy for him.  His snoring is much better, also.  When he went to the grocery store Friday, he called me with some numbers (I thought it was the price of the groceries at first), then I realized he was giving me his blood pressure:  120/83.  That is great!  I don't remember the last time it was in the normal range for both diastolic and systolic pressures.

I have lost 17 lbs as of today for an 8% weight loss to date.

There are a lot of good things going on.  There are things that we have questions about, but we need to wait on the Lord and not jump to our own conclusions.  He has everything in His control, so we will wait.  His faithfulness makes it easier, especially since Justin can take things one-day-at-a-time MUCH better than I can.

We are grateful for the blessings He has given us.

Have a blessed week!
Tammy

Weekly Update - July 7

Justin was really disappointed at his weekly weigh-in.  His weight was 207 lbs.  He felt it may as well have been 237 lbs.  I will try to help him work on it more this week.  This is his week to walk and sweat a lot at work, but that doesn't always translate into weight loss for him.

I lost .6 lbs, gained .1 lb lean mass and lost .7 lbs of fat.  It's still not where I was when I came back, but it's doing better.  My lean mass is up a total of 2.3 lbs from when I started back.

I have a lot of chores to do - and that is good, plus reading, and writing up projects.  I am trying to keep a balance on all those items and taking care of Justin and the children.  I had a REALLY bad headache this weekend, so on top of all that I was trying to accomplish, I was cranky, so Justin got a raw deal on that, unfortunately.  Having him home for three days helped so much, but I better not act like that or he won't want to have a three-day weekend with me anymore.  :-)

Thanks to all who said a prayer for us.  God took care of the situation.  He knew what we needed and provided that for us.  God is so wonderful, awesome, loving, and generous!  God tells us not to worry.  Justin wasn't worried, but I was.  I sure hope I learn soon, thankfully, God loves me anyway.  What a good God!

Have a blessed week,
Tammy

Update - June 30

Justin is disappointed because after all the hiking and walking and swimming he did last week, he didn't lose any weight.

The girls and I are very glad to have Justin and our son back from camp, though.

I have been checking my weight through the week and it had been up by nearly three pounds, but my body fat percentage was down significantly.  I weigh 1.2 pounds more than last week, but my body fat weight is down 1 pound and my lean mass (muscle) is up 2.2 pounds.  My muscles are sore, also.

I took the girls to see their grandparents on Monday and Friday.  On Tuesday, we went to the Creation Science Museum in Glen Rose, then went to Dinosaur Valley State Park.  We looked at he dinosaur replicas, the dinosaur tracks in the river, and swam and played in the river.  On Wednesday, we went to a small local zoo.  Both girls LOVED it, although we didn't see any monkeys.  We also went to the Dr. Pepper Museum.  That was fun, also, except that the fountain Dr.Pepper tasted like Waco water because they don't filter the water there.  Yuck!  They used to use Artesian wells, but the city of Waco had those all closed up years ago.  Now they use lake water that simply tastes awful.  It was still fun.

Justin was so proud of our son swimming the mile swim for a special patch - and getting up each morning before 6:00 am to go swim before his other classes.  That our son sucked it up and hiked 11 miles the day after doing the mile swim, even though he was sore.  That was all he needed to do to complete his camping merit badge that he needs.  He was also proud of him for coming in second in the archery tournament, even though he had an arrow go "wonky" on him.  Justin said that he really showed good leadership skills while he was there.  We are very proud of him.  He turns 17 on Wednesday.

The girls are up and I have a lot to do today.  Best of luck to everyone on you weigh-ins.

btw...  There is something really stressful going on right now.  I'm uncertain about this issue and I don't really know what to do.  If you read this and don't mind saying some prayers for us that things get sraightened out soon, I would really appreciate it.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day.  Remember those who are fighting for us around the world.  I am so thankful for all the freedoms we have in the United States.

Have a blessed week!

"Weekly" (ah-hem) Update

I weighed in this morning - I thought at first I had it (the scale started at 199.6), but I'm still close anyway - 200.6 lbs.  Better than last week - and better than my last public weigh-in.  I'm okay with that.

Reset my goals.  I'm okay with that also.

Justin is at camp - having to hike to breakfast this morning he said.  Sounds like a nice way to start the day.  Smile

My girls are up and ready for Mommy's attention.

I wish you all the best on your weigh-ins and on life this week.  May God bless each of you.

Tammy
